Opera at the Paphos Aphrodite Festival, Cyprus

The island of Cyprus is much like an open-air museum, rich in history and culture. So it is no surprise that the annual Paphos Aphrodite Opera Festival has become one of the most popular events in Cyprus to date.

This 7th, 8th and 9th of September sees the 14th year of the festival present ‘Otello’ by Giuseppe Verdi in the Medieval Castle square. This is incredibly exciting here in Cyprus as the plot takes place at Cyprus’s Castle of Famagusta.

When it comes to opera or theatre, I think it is important to make an evening of it. For our opera loving guests we organise a pre-opera or post-opera dinner and an alternative light late night dinner at Annabelle.

This year, the dinner at Annabelle, will offer guests a variety of traditional Cyprus meze dishes that compliment the guests cultural evening. Dishes include feta and pomegranate salad and anari cheese with avocado, lettuce and tomato on olive bread and a selection of local wines.

The hotel can arrange tickets for you. To book these or a stay at Annabelle, please click here.

My favourite operas are Verdi’s ‘La Traviata’ and ‘Aida’. Have you ever been to the opera? Which is your favourite?
